How can I increase the number of articles I get with my database search?
Answer
Database search results are the sets of articles resulting from the search terms used. The more limits that are applied to the search, the fewer the search results will be. Ways to increase the number of articles in the search include:
Remove some search limits, such as patient population age group
Increase the publication date range; search for articles published in the last 10 years instead of 5 years
Use additional search terms that are synonyms, such as venous thromboembolism, thrombosis, embolism
Use different forms of the same word, such as thrombus or thrombi
Search using different words, such as terms used in the articles already identified
Refer to the Reference lists of articles already found to see if any of those articles are useful
Search for newer articles that cite the articles already identified [PubMed has this feature]
Search using additional databases, such as Cinahl or the Cochrane Library
