Micromedex includes information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, and alternative medicines to make informed clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Some specific products included in Banner's Micromedex subscription are Alternative Medicine, IV Compatability, Martindale, POISINDEX, and REPRORISK.  For the complete list, click on "My Subscription" in the upper right corner of the Micromedex homepage.

Accessing this resource

  • On-site: Follow this link path from the library website: Resources>Databases>M>Micromedex or visit Banner Connect and select "Clinical" and locate under the "Pharmacy" heading. 
  • Off-site:
    • With Bannerhealth.com email: Start on the library website and click anywhere. You will be asked to login once with your Banner Health email, password, and Microsoft Authenticator App the first time you encounter one of our subscribed reources.  
    • Without BannerHealth.com email: Start at the OpenAthens Portal. Login with your library-issued Open Athens account and use links provided on the list of resources. Don't have an OpenAthens account? Use this form to request an account. It may also be helpful to view this OpenAthens video for detailed information on each of the resources.
  • Mobile: If you are accessing this resource via a mobile device, to use the full version of the product, we suggest that you start at the library website (library.bannerhealth.com) and follow the path Resources>Databases>M>Micromedex . Once you do so, you will be prompted to enter your Banner Health credentials and authenticate using the Microsoft Authenticator app. After the first site visit, you may wish to add a Watson icon to your Mobile device home screen. 
  • How to add Watson icon to iPhone
    1. Open Safari.
    2. Tap the Share icon at the bottom center of the web browser screen (this is a square box with an arrow pointing up).
    3. Tap Add to Home Screen (swipe right or left to at the bottom of the screen to see all your options. The button is a box with a + sign in the middle).
    4. The Micromedex icon is added to your home screen.
    5. Manage the icon just like an app. Tap the icon to open Watson get drug information answers.
  • How to add Watson icon to Android
    1. Open Android Browser.
    2. Tap create bookmark icon (this is the three dots to the right of the link window).
    3. Tap on the drop-down menu.
    4. Tap Home Screen.
    5. The Micromedex icon appears on your home screen.
    6. Manage the icon just like an app. Tap the icon to open Watson get drug information answers.

Instead of using the full version, IBM Micromedex Drug Ref, IBM Micromedex Drug Interactions, and IBM Micromedex IV Compatibility apps may also be downloaded.  A section in the top right of the home page called "Mobile Application Access" has download instructions and passwords.  You must be on campus or logged in via Banner VPN to view the details.  To keep the app(s) active, update passwords at least yearly.  You may obtain new passwords from the Banner Micromedex "Moble Application Access" page.

Micromedex offers several tip sheets, guides and training videos, which range from 4 to 25 minutes.  Many are listed in the "Micromedex in Your Workflow" and "Overviews" categories, but be sure to check all sections of interest.
